“LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!”
No, I’m serious.
There’s going to be a Rumble at Rocky’s Pizza next Tuesday (June 26) from 12:15 to 1:15pm and you’re invited.
What kind of rumble?
Glad you asked.
We will be rumbling about a hot local issue…. the Columbia River Crossing (CRC) Project. You know, the new toll bridge they’re planning to build? Some are in favor and some aren’t and LOTS of people have opinions about it (including yours truly).
So on Tuesday the Battle Ground Toastmasters Group (which I’m a member of) will be hosting a “Policy Debate” about the CRC Project.
I will be one of four debaters (2 on each teach) participating. The audience will get to hear both sides of the argument as they “flow sheet” the ideas discussed (basically, that means they’ll be taking notes to see which arguments hold water and which ones get torn to shreds).
At the end you can decide which team won the rumble. You’re free to come early, order some pizza and settle in a front row seat to watch all the action go down!
I’m a little nervous (don’t tell my opponents) and excited since this is my first “formal” debate. And the interesting twist is that I will be arguing the side I don’t believe in (we weren’t given a choice). But I think it’ll be a good experience.
So if you’re interested in learning the proper format for Policy Debate or you simply want to check out our Toastmasters Group (which is a group designed to help you become a better public speaker) then come to the “Rumble” Tuesday.
And if you do come, please introduce yourself and let me know you’re a Buzz Reader. I’d love to meet you if we haven’t met already!
Now, I need to go jump rope and train for my rumble. Hope to see you there!
