By Gregg Herrington
Communications Director for Battle Ground School District
Saturday, May 5, Battle Ground-area residents will have a convenient way of helping north county’s needy families. “Stuff the Bus” food drives are set for the Fred Meyer and Albertson’s parking lots from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Battle Ground Public School Employees union (PSE) is sponsoring the event, with a school bus at each of the Battle Ground stores that day.
Area residents are encouraged to drop off donations of non-perishable food, paper products, personal hygiene items, etc. to volunteers who will put them in a school bus that will deliver them to the North County Community Food Bank. Cash donations also are welcome. PSE represents the school district’s “classified” employees, including teacher aides, custodians, maintenance workers and secretaries.
Other sponsors include Albertson’s and Fred Meyer; Petermann Northwest, the Battle Ground School District’s transportation contractor; students and
parents from River HomeLink school; the Battle Ground High School ROTC and students from CAM Jr.-Sr. High and Prairie High.
Checks to North County Community Food Bank may be left with a volunteer on May 5 or mailed to the food bank at PO Box 2106, Battle Ground, WA 98604. Food donations are always needed at the food bank, 17 NE Third Ave., Battle Ground, (360) 687-5007.
